A Heartfelt Tribute to Ms Suchi Ebrahim|   22 September 2023

AVR and PT shares with sadness the loss of Ms Suchi Ebrahim.

From the first book published she has been instrumental in cover design layout and font selection. If our publication is known for its design and quality it is to Ms Ebrahim that we owe this appreciation. Her designs for our book covers were instrumental in our books receiving recognition and 'awards for excellence in book production' from the Federation of Indian Publishers.

We at AVR and PT will sorely miss her contribution. It is perhaps her premonition that inspired her to design many book covers for future publications. Her connection to Swamiji is indeed just Grace.

May Pujya Swamiji bless her and her family.

Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ

Homage|   1 January 2023

Brahmalina Swamini Vidyananda Saraswati is an illustrious Acarya disciple of Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati of Arsha Vidya order. She was a teacher par-excellence and initiated in a big way Sandhya Gurukulams - training teachers in every village in Tamil to teach village kids, values, culture, folk song and through that inculcate devotion. She lived Pujyasri's mantra ‘All that's here is Ishvara’. She again excelled in Guru seva to both her teachers, Pujya Swamiji and Swami Sakshatkrtanandaji. She also taught Sanskrit to many students in Pathashalas and helped them graduate.
Swamini during the last years was essentially a Vedanta acarya for the three-year course at Swami Dayananda Asram Rishikesh and was also well-versed in puja vidhis and a great upasaka herself. She conducted regular pujas to Lord Dakshinamurty in her private space apart from effectively contributing to pujas at the Adishtanam of Pujya Swamiji and the temples in his Ashrams. She served them all with dhanam, dhaanyam, vastram, dakshina, dravya, chanting mantras with svaras and with all puja angas.

To be doing that all with great assurance and also teaching Vedanta to her students and ably assisting her teachers in disseminating the teaching at the Gurukulams, Swamini fitted the bill which Pujya Swamiji has blessed her with. She has also chosen to join the Master in Mahasamadhi. She can inspire many of her student devotees and gurubhais and gurubehens in their journey forward.

Our Manjakkudi school teachers express their gratitude to Swamini who in the last months have been training them in person and on-line how to inculcate values and devotion in students.Further, Arsha Vidya Research and Publication Trust shares its indebtedness to Swamini for getting published Pujya Swamiji's teachings on Brahma Sutra Bhashyam. Thanks to Swamini's dedicated effort we were able to submit the book at the Adhishthanam in 2016.

Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ

Book release: Mandukya Karika with Shankara Bhashya|   22 September 2022

Mandukya Upanisad in 4 volumes released on 23rd September 2022
during the 7th Aradhana Celebrations at Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh)

The Mandukya Upanishad with Gaudapada Karika, Shankara Bhashya and Pujya Swamiji's commentary on the same for all the four prakaranas - is the most anticipated book of the year. It was taught during the first long term course (1990–1993) at the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam Anaikatti by Pujya Swamiji. The book was released on September 23, 2022 at the Rishikesh Ashram as part of the 7th Aradhana celebrations.

Arsha Vidya Research and Publication Trust took up the transcription, editing and publishing the Mandukya Upanishad. Guided by Swami Sakshatkrtananda, the AVR & PT team worked for 18 months to bring out this four volume book which will be of great interest to students of Vedanta. Smt. Sheela Balaji pitched in with a divine cover design befitting the content and the teacher.

Pujya Swamiji's teaching tenure spanned almost 50 years as one of the senior acaryas mentioned at the Aradhana celebrations. The time period of this book falls mid-way and hence has the flavour of Pujya Swamiji's teachings across the 5 decades. As one turns the pages, readers will witness and reminisce the thought-provoking messages that he imparted. We thoroughly cherished every moment of creating this book, and are sure readers will enjoy it as well.

During the book release function, a translation work of Mundaka Upanishad in Hindi from the original text earlier published by AVR and PT was also released. The translation has been done by Swamini Prabhananda Saraswati and will benefit all Hindi readers.

The books were released at the Adhistananam of Pujya Swamiji during the seventh Aradhana celebrations on 23rd October 2022 and are available at www.avrpt.com.

A Student’s Tribute to Pujya Sri Swami Omkaranandaji     |     10 May 2021

It is with immense sadness that we share the news of Pujya Sri Swami Omkaranandaji attaining Mahasamadhi on 10 May 2021 (at 5.40 p.m.). He was a strong advocate of Hindu Dharama, a spiritual guide and well-wisher of AIM for Seva.

Pujya Sri Swami Omkarananda ji received Sanyasa Diksha from Pujya Swami Chidbhavananda, the founder of the Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Thirupparaithurai. Pujya Swami Omkarananda ji studied Vedanta under Pujya Swami Paramarthananda, one of the foremost disciples of Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, under whom he studied in depth the various Vedantic scriptures, in a traditional manner. In Vedapuri, Theni, Pujyasri Swamiji has established an Ashram in the name of Parama Pujya Swami Chidbhavananda. Through his spiritual discourses, he spread the Vedantic teachings, in spiritual camps held across the globe.

We share below a tribute by his close student, Mr. Chandrashekar, who was recently under the tutelage of Pujya Sri Swami Omkaranandaji.

"Pujya Sri Swami Omkaranandaji was a leading light of Sanatana Dharma. His simple style of unravelling Vedanta in Tamizh is unparalleled. He was a beacon of light for both Veda Purva and Veda Antha. He was an expert in Mantra, Aagama, Tantra, Yoga and very many other aspects of our Shastras. He was an encyclopedia of Sanatana Dharma.

His departure is an irreparable loss for SanatanaDharma, in particular and humanity, in general....

Swamiji was a colossus. It is impossible to fathom his knowledge. Equally adept in Sanskrit and Tamil, he always stood tall among the learned. He roared like a lion on any Vedanta topic with a depth of delivery that was unfathomable. He had an elephantine memory and could recollect verses in Tamil and Sanskrit with ease. Sometimes he would even quote a cinema song of yesteryear. He could recollect verses that he had heard several decades ago. Such was his MedhaShakti.

Never one who would boast of his erudition, he would remark in a childlike manner, “I have studied only up to 7th class and hence my grasp of English is not good.” He would publicly express his ignorance of this foreign language and ask others about meanings of English words to improve his vocabulary. He would never hesitate to be corrected. He was humility personified.

Swamiji was an eternal student. He spent a lot of time studying scriptures. A couple of years ago, a teacher was arranged to impart English language education to him. He preferred to go to the teacher to learn English rather than the teacher coming to his place. He wanted the teacher to treat him as a student – humility personified. He was childlike. Some of his statements highlighted his humility and the student in him: “Did I say it properly?”; “My knowledge is very limited in this space”; “I need to read more; let me read and revert.”

Swamiji delivered a few talks in English over the last two years (including the 3-day webinar for AIM for Seva in May 2020).

s an Atma Vidya student, I used to be awestruck with his depth of knowledge. Each class was a magnum opus and, if missed, could never be compensated. Always, I used to wonder, how could one could gather so much knowledge in one’s life time. The Atma Vidya classes were meticulously planned. He made the best use of technology and reached the homes of thousands of aspiring students every day with a clock work precision.

Like Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, he had several projects running simultaneously. When asked about budgets and resources, his answer would always be “Mata Bhuvaneswari and Lord Dakshinamurti will take care.” True to his shraddha, all projects had a finale that was more impressive than originally envisioned.

Swamiji had a broad vision. He was a great Maharishi who lived amongst us. He would always think big whether it was a temple project, imparting spiritual education, helping the poor during COVID times or helping the Vedic students and many more. Even the very sight of PrajnaDakshinamoorthy idol at Theni is an example of his grand vision. His thoughts and actions were always big. He never surrendered to mediocrity.

Swamiji was an Avatara purusha. He did many things that only a few could even dare to think. It is impossible for anyone to accomplish such a wide range of things in such a short span. Pujya Swamiji was an active person till even a week before his Maha Samadhi. Everyone in his vicinity, would feel charged. Swamiji was an early riser, completed his ablutions, temple visit, Brahma Sutram class, Atma Vidya class, Bhikshavandanam, Pudukottai temple progress review, English learning, scriptural reading, meeting visitors, attending to publication work...the list was endless till he retired to bed.

Swamiji’s reverence to his Gurus was unparalleled. He had the highest respect for all his Gurus: Pujya Chidbhavananda Swami, Pujya Swami Chinmayananda, Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Pujya Swami Paramartananda Saraswati and Pujya Swami Shantananda Saraswati.

His respect towards the Sringeri Acharya lineage was impeccable. The current Acharyas always loved to interact with him. They had a special place in their hearts for Swamiji.

Swamiji respected scholars from every other school of thought and tradition. Many revered Swamis and luminaries visited him at his Swami Chidbhavananda Theni ashram and all of them had great admiration for Swamiji. It was very easy for people to move with him. Swamiji never had any reservations. He was simple and easy to approach. Swamiji had no discrimination between a new and time tested acquaintance.

He was an ocean of compassion. Swamiji believed in sharing and would never keep anything to himself. Sharing was always his second nature be it knowledge, time or material possessions.

Swamiji would always treat everyone alike. Even a child would be at ease in his presence. Swamiji would abundantly praise anything good and pay tributes to eminent persons of all traditions in the spiritual world. He would always absorb the best in others and would quote them with no reservations. His humility was such that he would acknowledge and clearly name the person whose statement he quoted.

Swamiji was a proponent of Dharma and would ask, “What’s the use of human life if Dharma is not adhered to?”

Pujya Swami Omkaranandaji has left a void that is irreplaceable. He was a walking encyclopaedia. The way he would connect one subject or topic to another was astonishing. Yet, Swamiji would never take any credit for his lucid disquisition. He would always attribute the richness of his delivery to his Guru parampara and Shastra. Maybe, the spiritual world will not see another person of his stature for centuries to come.

Swamiji never hesitated in candidly expressing his views. Whenever there was an onslaught on Hinduism, he would boldly express his displeasure and support it with a fitting reply. It is important to note here that his reply would always be rational, supported by facts and relevant quotes.

Many of us who have read Tamil literature, poetry and scriptures as part of school academics, did not understand the depth of it till we heard Swamiji expound them. Only then we realized the value of Tamil literature and saw its relevance in our spiritual pursuits.

Swamiji enjoyed teaching rare Vedantic texts that were hitherto unheard of. The library at Theni ashram has rare books, which he painstakingly collected.

His approach to life and death was alike. He would frequently say “One who is born is bound to die.” His was a short life, spanning six-and-a-half decades. As Mumukshus, we all wanted Swamiji to live much longer and guide us. Let us pray to Swamiji who was a Jeevan Muktha, and who has now attained Videha Muktha, to continue to bless all of us.

Mahatmas do not disappear. They are always with us as a beacon of light. They continue to live through their teachings.

Through his teachings, Pujya Swamiji wanted everyone to have “peaceful happiness” (“amaidiyaanaaanandam”). As his students, it should be our prerogative to have shraddha and take full advantage of his invaluable teachings to gain this aananda.

Harih Om.

New Release: Sri Dakshinamurti Stotram23 September 2020

Sri Dakshinamurti Stotram is the latest title added to the collection of books authored by Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati.

The book was released at the Adhishthanam at Rishikesh by Swami Suddhanandaji and Swami Sakshatkrtanandaji on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Pujya Swamiji's Mahasamadhi on 23rd September 2020.

The Dakshinamurti Stotram of Sri Shankara is highly revered in the tradition. Shankara describes Lord Dakshinamurti as the embodiment of both dharma and knowledge and also describes the essential nature of Brahman.

The stotram contains the most profound teachings of Advaita Vedanta, and is supposed to confer Atma-jnanam to the student. With the whole Vedanta shastra being there in this stotram, it is moksha shastra, a scriptural teaching that can lead to one's liberation.

Orbituary20 September 2020

Swami Pratyagbodhananda Saraswati attained MahaSamadhi on September 20, 2020 at USA at the age of 70. He had a massive heart attack.

Swamiji was born on October 20, 1950 at Gujarat. His purvasrama name was Nitin. He did the second long term course at Sandeepany Sadanalaya, Chinmaya Mission, Mumbai during 1976-1978. His Brahmacharidiksha name was Nityabodha Chaitanya. He was given Sannyasadiksha on March 2, 1992 by Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati.

Swamiji was teaching Vedanta for the past 30 years at Surat, Gujarat under the auspices of Viswa-Mangalam Trust. He was also Vice President of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in Saylorsburg, USA. Swamiji had given lectures in many places in North America.

Swamiji taught in English, Gujarati and Hindi. He taught Bhagavad Gita, Upanisads, Panchadasi and other vedantic texts. He also gave lectures on Tulsi Ramayana and Bhagavatapurana, which were soaked in devotion. Swamiji had extensive satsangh with Swami Akhandananda Saraswati of Brindavan, which made his Bhagavata lectures reflect great Krishna bakthi.

Swamiji was very simple and easy to approach. He was loved by everyone who had come into contact with him. Swamiji was affectionate to everybody. He was so generous in his kindness.

Arsha Vidya Research and Publication Trust offers shraddanjali to this great Vedanta Acarya. Swamiji had come to Manjakkudi in December 2019 to conduct a Vedanta camp at Jnana Pravaha, a week-long retreat for a group of 47 devotees from Surat. Swamiji also visited all seva activities in the village and recalled his memories with Pujya Swamiji and blessed us all.

The classes took place at Jnana Pravaha lecture hall. The unique structure of the retreat was that the classes were embedded in a schedule wherein the day began with Pancaayatana Puja conducted by priests from Pathashala for the shrine which the Swamiji’s purvaasrama sister Swamini Vibhavananda brought along. Before the puja, individual members had their own meditation at Pujya Swamiji’s shrine attached to Jnana Pravaha meditation hall.

Just hours before his Samadhi, Swamiji received the latest book on Pujya Swamiji’s talks on Sri Dakshinamurti Stotram at the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam’s thirty-fourth Anniversary function at Saylorsburg. We feel blessed that he has carried our pranams to Pujya Swamiji with him.

Om shantih shantih shantih .

Anugraha bhaashanam by Pujya Swamiji at the release function on 19/12/2013 at Ahmedabad appreciating Dr. Anil Patwardhan for his good work on bringing out Bhagavad Gita Home Study course in Marathi – translation from the Bhagavad Gita home study in English authored by Pujya Swamiji and published by Arsha Vidya Research and Publication Trust, Chennai.

From Pujya Swamiji's anugraha bhaashanam:
"It is a great dedicated work for many years – 9 volumes, Gita Home Study. Gita home study in English is in nine volumes and to translate all of them, it takes lot of insight, one has to understand what is going on, people say I speak simple language, I do not, I speak clear language, I do not speak simple language. Therefore it takes some understanding of language also. Ubhaya bhaasha praveenah. One has to be very good in English, one has to be very good in Marathi, not enough. One has to understand what is going on. Bhagavan’s grace is necessary. All marathi saints’ grace is necessary. I congratulate him for his contribution, it is a great contribution, for generations to come. Somebody will read the book, lying in some library and get enlightened, possible. I am very proud of his contribution to the world of seekers. Thank you."

The richly illustrated 350 page book with lively images of Swamiji in his many avatars, features his extremely rare writings over the years - most of it relevant to present days' society as much as it was 60 years ago.

It also features interesting dialogues with the author on topics ranging from recession to astrology, giving the reader a never before perspective of Swamiji's views of the contemporary and ever changing world.

It is a sincere attempt to present the many facets of Swamiji - as a Vedanta teacher with his unique pedagogy, as a Social entrepreneur spearheading transformation at the grass root level through service - to create confident and contributing young Indians, a remarkable Author who conveys his thoughts so lucidly in his writings, and a pillar of the Sanatana Dharma and the Acharya Sabha - promoting tolerance and global understanding through religious dialogue.
