Meditation involves the mind’s dwelling upon the object of meditation. If the object is one that is unknown, the mind cannot dwell upon the object. At least an indirect knowledge of the object is necessary for the mind to objectify the meditated. Different deities we can meditate upon—we do meditate upon—because we have some indirect knowledge of all of them. Such meditations do produce certain results.
