The vision of shastra can be reduced to a single verse found in the supplementary text, Drk-Drsya Vivekah. This verse highlights 5 aspects in each object of experience:
– asti bhati priyam rupam nama cetyamshapancakam
adyatrayam brahmarupam jagadrupam tato dvayam –
The five words, asti (exists), bhati (shines), priyam (pleases), rupam (form) and nama (name) cover all objects in the world. The first three pertain to the nature of Brahman and the remaining two, to the nature of the world.
The shloka distinguishes 5 aspects in each object cognition: asti , bhati and priyam, are lakshanas, words indicating the nature of Brahman as existence, consciousness and limitlessness. The same 3 aspects are indicated also by the words sat-cit-ananda or satyam-jnanam-anantam.
The remaining two aspects, nama (name) and rupa (form), depend on Brahman for their existence, like a clay pot depends on clay and a golden chain depends on gold …
