You need to know what you want to accomplish when taking up the study of a Vedānta book. What you want to accomplish is mokṣa. Mokṣa is freedom from what you don’t want. Mokṣa is in the form of knowledge.
I am bound by my own limitations, and there seems to be no solution. But if there is such a thing as mokṣa, then I must be already free. But I'm ignorant of this fact.
This knowledge is offered by Veda śāstraṃ. Veda includes Vedānta. This knowledge is all over the Veda but at the end of Veda it is taught as a subject matter. And the subject is that the self is free, it is pūrṇaḥ.
Then why one need to study when the self is already free? This is the subject matter of the talks on praṃāna.
